WHEN IS THE APPLICATION DEADLINE?

Applications for the 24/25 season Theatrical Fellowship Program closed on Friday, March 15th, 2024. More information about next season's fellowships will be released in early 2025.

I'M INTERESTED IN MULTIPLE FELLOWSHIPS. CAN I APPLY TO MORE THAN ONE?

Applicants are welcome to express interest in more than one fellowship. However, you must address why you are interested in each one specifically within your cover letter or short answer responses. Please note that there are two separate application forms for the Artistic Fellowship and for fellowships in all other departments. If you are applying to multiple fellowships and one of them is Artistic, you must complete both forms. You may use the same resume and references for both applications if they are relevant for all departments to which you are applying.

WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?

When completing the online application form, applicants are asked to upload a  resume, short written or video responses to several prompts, and contact information for two references. While cover letters are optional, they should be submitted as a single PDF with your resume. If selected to interview, candidates may be asked to provide writing samples or a portfolio.

ARE THE FELLOWSHIPS FULL-TIME, AND WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE?

Fellowships for the 2024/25 season will begin in September and continue through the production season, concluding in June. General Management, Casting, and Marketing Fellows join their teams three days per week during normal business hours (10AM – 6PM). The schedule is determined based on both the fellow's availability and the department's needs.

Artistic Fellows join their team four days a week during normal business hours (10AM – 6PM).

Stage Management Fellows are in residence for the six day rehearsal/performance schedule (usually Tuesday – Sunday) when involved with a show.

HOW MUCH ARE FELLOWS PAID?

Fellows are paid minimum wage, which is currently $15.00 per hour. This hourly rate will increase to $16.50 in January of 2025, then to $17.00 in January of 2026. All Fellows will also receive an unlimited monthly MetroCard, free or discounted tickets to  shows, and a $250 professional development stipend.

CAN I DO A FELLOWSHIP AND ATTEND COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME?

Because our fellowships are primarily full-time and run the duration of our production season, the program is geared toward those who have completed their undergraduate training or do not anticipate being enrolled in a full-time educational program during the fellowship. If you’re nearing graduation in spring of 2024, we encourage you to apply. Please note that it is not a prerequisite that our Fellows have earned a bachelor's degree.

DOES PLAYWRIGHTS OFFER FELLOWSHIPS DURING THE SUMMER?

Because our season-length fellowships usually begin as early as August and run through June, we do not traditionally offer additional opportunities during the summer months.

AM I ABLE TO WORK A SECOND JOB OR HAVE ANOTHER INTERNSHIP DURING MY FELLOWSHIP?

Yes, it is possible for Fellows to participate in other opportunities that support them during their time outside of office hours or their rehearsal schedule. Stage Management fellows may encounter opportunities to participate in outside work during periods between production commitments.

I'M NOT FROM NEW YORK. WHAT ABOUT HOUSING?

We are unable to provide housing for our Fellows, but can provide guidance on how to find housing in New York.

IF I AM NOT A U.S. CITIZEN, CAN I STILL APPLY TO THE PROGRAM?

While you do not need to be a United States citizen in order to participate in this program, fellows receive their weekly payments through payroll and will need to provide a Social Security Number in order to be paid.

IS PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED?

Having prior work experience is not required for this program. We are seeking fellows who have demonstrated a passion for working in the arts and who are at a point in their education or careers to strongly benefit from this kind of immersive training experience.
